Our peer-reviewed publication SHIFT: Global EHS Research to Practice will serve as a conduit to cutting-edge research and discovery supporting the transformation of original research and innovation to practical application and best practices in EHS - and it will all be thanks to you!
If you are interested in submitting work for publication, please read the Author Guidelines with specific submission requirements and expectations. An additional checklist of these requirements is provided in the Author Information Submission Form.

To ensure that your time and expertise are used most effectively, we ask that all volunteers fill out this Volunteer Application Form. Please see details below:
Editorial Board Advisor responsibilities include:
- Commit up to 40 hours per calendar year
- Promote SHIFT to potential readers, authors, organizations, etc.
- Perform outreach to gather potential research submissions
- Assist with volunteer recruitment
- Advise and approve policies and procedures
- High level management of operations
- Evaluation of journal reports and performance for improvement
- Advise on ethical concerns involving volunteers and content
- May be required to contribute one (1) peer review and "tie-breakers" each year
- Communicate clearly and constructively
- We ask that all volunteers act according to the BCSP Code of Ethics and hold themselves accountable during the duration of the volunteer activity. The document may be reviewed here.

This application should be completed by those interested in submitting Best Practices for publication.
Best Practices are a synopsis of accessible, relevant, and efficient best practices on occupational safety, health, and/or environmental topics for use in the EHS field. Best practices can, but do not have to be research based. Accepted best practices will be developed with assistance by SHIFT through research or practice.
The Best Practice Committee, a group of CSP holders from diverse EHS backgrounds, will assist in the review and development of the Best Practice.
Best Practice Submission Checklist
The following are required for submission:
- Author contact information
- Author Resumé (Include total years of experience in EHS field)
- Best Practice Synopsis (Include total time of utilization)
- Intended Media Choice
- Idea of Support Needed
- Signed Statement of Originality

This application should be completed by students interested in submitting their research posters for publication on the SHIFT website. Students should be currently enrolled in an academic institution who have recently engaged in a noteworthy, scholarly investigation or safety research study in the environmental, health, and safety (ESH) field.
Priority is given to recent work, including work still in progress, for which the student has had primary responsibility (i.e., qualifies as first author). Thesis research for a master's or doctoral degree at a school is eligible for presentation, either as a report on work in progress or as a final report. For completed work (e.g., a thesis already defended), the date of completion of the investigation or study should be no greater than 18 months prior to submission.
Poster Submission Checklist
The following are required for submission:
- Author contact information
- Personal bio (200 words max)
- Professional headshot (at least 400 pixels wide)
- Abstract
- Paragraph(s) about the research, including scope and methodology
- Poster upload (Image must be at least 2,500 pixels wide. A 36”x48” PowerPoint slide is acceptable. Other acceptable formats include PDF, PSD, or AI).
- Signed Statement of Originality

Manuscript Submission Checklist
The following are required for submission:
- Author(s) contact information
- Designated author as primary contact
- Abstract with keywords
- Main text of the manuscript (.doc, .docx, or .pdf)
- Signed Statement of Originality
- Research only - No identifying information
- Research only - Title page
- Research only - IRB approval (if applicable)
Separate files for visual representations (tables, diagrams, photos, etc.) will be requested after acceptance. Please have these ready, if applicable.

- The time required to review may vary depending on the length and complexity of the research, please plan accordingly
- Some research may require significant revisions which will need to be reviewed accordingly.
- Anonymity and confidentiality are essential for the double blind review process and will need to be maintained throughout peer review.
- We ask that all volunteers act according to the BCSP Code of Ethics and hold themselves accountable during the duration of the volunteer activity. The document may be reviewed here.

- To ensure our Best Practice Committee members are able to provide high-quality, astute analysis, a CSP certification, and at least 10 years of safety experience are required.
- The time required to assist in the development of best practices and complete reviews may vary depending on the length and complexity of the research, please plan accordingly.
- Some best practices may require significant revisions, which will need to be reviewed accordingly.
- Confidentiality is essential for the Best Practice Guide development process and will need to be maintained throughout development.
- We ask that all volunteers act according to the BCSP Code of Ethics and hold themselves accountable during the duration of the volunteer activity. The document may be reviewed here.

- Suggested length: 600 – 800 words
- Letters in response to an editorial, article, or best practice may be considered. These pieces can facilitate organic, engaging discussion about topics or reports that may not otherwise have a platform.
